Easter Lily 2008
I'm a day late - but Happy Easter everyone!! This painting gave me FITS!! It's on canson block using DS paints. I completely covered the background with graphite pencil first, then laid in two layers of indigo paint--wanted it as close to black as I could get. That part was successful. I painted the leaves next and that went okay. I erased my pencil lines on the flowers before I started painting them and THAT'S where I ran into trouble. I'm pleased with the lower two flowers and with the bud behind the middle flower, but the flower on top!! Ohmygoodness!! I had such a time especially with the lower petal and I've overworked it and absolutely can't scrub out and start over ANYMORE - so this is it.

That is a very unique way to get a dark background. The lilies are so beautiful!
I admit to trying to do a lily and scraping it. You have inspired me with these beauties.

I never would have thought of doing that to get a really dark background, great tip. I think your flowers turned out beautiful, even the top one. Maybe you can see the problem more IRL. Love the colors in the shadows.
Well Brenda, I'm glad we didn't see the FITS, but I'm very happy to see the painting! Your lilies are beautiful with the dark background(I learnt something here..)and your green leaves are perfect. Come back to it later and you'll see it differently.

No evidence of fits here - this is gorgeous! I like the top flower best and the blue background is so strong against the petals, really lovely!
It is lovely. You'll like it more when you've had time to get over the frustration.
