Pike's Exercise #13 - Troubador's Rest Stop
This is the final exercise in "John Pike Paints Watercolors." I like this one and it was fun to work on! I like the simple subjects and the rustic feel of this still life and love the punch of color the bottle gives. Done on Arches Rough (my first experience with the rough) and I really can't tell much difference between it and the regular block. A very limited palette was used.
I'm in the midst of some home remodeling and didn't think I'd get time to work on art at all for a couple of weeks. The contractors seem to be doing just fine without me and so I jumped at the opportunity to paint today. Actually, I think they prefer it when I am out of the way - LOL.

You're doing great with your exercises! It would be interesting if you try one or two of them again next year.
Now I need to purchase that book!
This is really good, I especially like the bag hanging there. Nice job. :)
FANT-ABULOUS, BREN!!! WHAT A GREAT JOB YOU'VE DONE!! CONGRATS FOR FINISHING THE BOOK TOO!!! WAY TO GO!
Hmmm... if my comment shows up twice, it is becuase I just lost the first one, somehow ...
ANYWAY -- I've really enjoyed looking through your Pike watercolor exercises. They are really great -- In this one I especially like the sunlit side of the bag with that DEEP triangular shadow, which gives it great depth!
I think Jenny is right -- you should pick your most favorite and your most hated exercises from this book and re-visit them in a year or two. It would be fun! Come to think about it, we should all probably do that with something... :-)
By the way -- I don't know how I've missed your blog for so long. I'm lazy and depend on Bloglines, and for some reason your blog wasn't on my list. I really apologize for the oversight and am kicking myself for missing all your fun work so far. THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED though -- like Arnold says -- I'll be back...
:-D
Thank you all for looking and for your comments! Jenny and Linda, re-doing some of these a year from now is an EXCELLENT idea - I hope I can remember that in April '08!! It's so funny how the bag stands out for most viewers (it is the most commented on subject on my flickr too) and I wasn't happy at ALL with it. My fav part is the bottle.
Great painting Brenda...love the surprise blue in this still life...adds a fun note to the composition!
